CBHSNA Lifetime Achievement Award

The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America’s Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges the Cleveland Bay Horses and their owners, who actively strive to educate the public, improve the horses, improve the public image, and highlight the versatility of this rare breed. Points may be earned by an individual horse, or by a farm owner/breeder. General Rules will apply to both categories and any differences are noted.

The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America started their performance award scheme (CLICK HERE FOR PA RULES) in 1993. Over the years the format has changed and expanded. The intent has always been to acknowledge and honor those folks with Cleveland Bay horses, both purebred and part bred, who are out competing and thus promoting the breed.

The scheme covered the disciplines of dressage, hunters, jumpers, driving, and eventing. The main Performance Award has always been multi-discipline, with shows being placed into differing categories based on their degree of difficulty.

Thomas Webster Memorial Trophy
Over the last decade, additional “special” performance-based awards have been introduced. Each year, the CBHSNA sponsors the Thomas Webster Memorial Trophy to the high-point purebred Cleveland Bay. For the following special awards, both pure and part bred PA-enrolled Cleveland Bays are eligible. These special awards are privately sponsored.

See a chart of all the special awards, sponsors and qualifications.

From the beginning CBHSNA has also offered to the dressage riders amongst the membership 'All Breed Awards' through the United States Dressage Federation (USDF).

cmdrivinghorsesThe current Performance Awards are now broken out into various disciplines: Versatility, Eventing, Hunter/Jumper, Dressage, Western, Driving, In-Hand, and Distance Riding. The most prestigious performance award is Versatility for it must be earned for competing in two or more disciplines.

Criteria to participate in the CBHSNA Performance Awards is very simple, the horse owner must be a member of the CBHSNA, the horse must be registered with CBHS, and the owner declares into the PA Scheme at the start of the year and pays a nominal fee. The PA administrator then provides the participants with a book which details all the rules and where the participants keep a record of their shows.

Thank you to our long-time sponsor, Horseloverz (http://www.horseloverz.com and http://www.horseloverz.com.co.uk) for partially subsidizing most (94%) of our regular Performance Awards.

CBHSNA welcomes Smart Pak Equine as a 2009 Performance Awards sponsor. Smart Pak Equine donated a set (4) of black polo wraps custom embroidered with the CBHSNA seal for a lucky dressage award winner.
Thanks to Smart Pak Equine for their generous support.

Field Hunter Certification Program

New in 2009

gg_and_seashell_field_hunterCleveland Bays and Cleveland Bay crosses have long been appreciated for their special aptitude in the hunt field.  Portrayals of the archetypal English hunter through hundreds of years of art bear an uncanny resemblance to this special breed, and not coincidentally.

This certification program is free to members of CBHSNA.

In order to qualify, horses must be fairly hunted at least 6 times and their attendance and appropriate behavior each outing must be certified by Hunt's Master.  Upon completion of the requirements, CBHSNA will provide a certificate recognizing the horse as a qualified fieldhunter.
