The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America would like to congratulate Merillat Hill of Aiken, South Carolina and her mare Forbes Magnolia for completing the requirement of certified CBHSNA Field Hunter. Forbes Magnolia PB 4129 aka Maggie is a 12 year old 5/8th partbred by Forbes Native Statesman (A2365) out of Forbes Maria bred by Wendy Forbes of Westfield, North Carolina and purchased from Wendy as a “just backed” 4 year old.
Merillat is a member of Whiskey Road Foxhounds in Aiken, South Carolina and Maggie has hunted for several years at various Whiskey Road fixtures in Aiken and surrounding counties. In addition to hunting, Maggie occasionally competes locally and in March 2010 was named “Champion Hilltopper” at the 94th annual Aiken Horse Show in the Hitchcock Woods. She had to be actively hunted during the current season and certified by her hunt's MFH in order to compete.
Merillat's first partbred was Forbes Pavlova PB 3514 a half bred mare out of Emperor Wonder (AUS 1710) and by Tudor Gleeman (TB). Merillat evented Pavlova through the Preliminary level, hunted her off and on for 10 +/- years and finished her show career in dressage at the Prix St. George level believed to be the only registered partbred in North America ever to compete at this level.
Merillat says of Maggie: “She just has the most pleasant, willing personality and is such a joy to work with and be around.” For the rest of 2010 we just plan to have a quiet summer and get ready to do it all over again next season.
Merillat received an embroidered document bag to carry copies of Coggins forms and other paperwork needed when transporting, hunting and showing horses. Thanks to Gabrielle Gordon of Keller, Texas and Horseloverz.com for co sponsoring this award.
